    When I’m writing a book, I write up a query even if I don’t need to. It helps me figure out what the book is about, and how to talk to people about it. It’s a good skill to practice!     While Isle of Teeth takes place in an alternate world and is not a historical, it does draw quite heavily from from the history, in particular focusing on the American colonial period in the Philippines.     Not everything in the story is made up. Here are some real creatures that show up in the book. I was definitely one of those kids that liked reading all the information at the zoo. What about you? The Philippine Forest Dog / Tiger Dog / Aso Ng Gubat / Witch Dog – The Gubat is a dog indigenous to the Philippines.
